Roof repairs in Gloucester
Leaks traced to the actual source, slipped and cracked tiles replaced, ridges re-bedded and flashings made good — across Gloucester, GL1 to GL4 and twenty miles around.
Finding the leak, not just the wet patch
Water rarely comes in where it shows up. It runs down a rafter, along a purlin and drops onto a ceiling several feet from the actual defect, which is why so many roof repairs get done twice. We start on the roof, not in the loft, and we look at the whole slope rather than the one tile above the stain.
On most Gloucester houses the culprit is one of a short list: a cracked or slipped tile, a failed cement fillet where lead flashing should be, a blocked valley, perished mortar at the ridge or verge, or guttering that has been overflowing back behind the fascia for a couple of winters. All of those are ordinary repairs. None of them needs a new roof.

Repairs we carry out most often
- Slipped and cracked tiles or slates – replaced with matching stock and secured properly. On slate we use copper tingles rather than relying on the nail hole.
- Ridge and hip tiles – lifted, re-bedded on fresh mortar and repointed where the original bedding has blown.
- Chimney flashing – cracked cement fillets cut out and replaced with proper code-graded lead soakers and back gutters.
- Valleys – cleared, and relined in lead where the original has split or the tiles either side have crept.
- Verges and bargeboards – repointed or fitted with dry verge systems where the mortar keeps failing on an exposed elevation.
- Felt at the eaves – repaired or re-dressed where it has torn and is dumping water behind the gutter.
If a repair will genuinely see you another ten years, we will say so. We would rather do a small job properly than sell you a roof you do not need yet.
What it costs, and how we quote
We come and look before quoting, and the price we give you is the price you pay unless you change the scope. Small repairs are usually a single visit; anything needing scaffold or a tower we tell you about up front rather than adding it later. There is no call-out charge for a quote.
Every repair carries our 20 year full written guarantee on workmanship and materials. If you are weighing up a repair against a full re-cover, our guide to what affects roofing costs sets out the difference, and the re-roofing page covers what a full replacement involves.
When a repair is the wrong answer
Sometimes it is. If the underlay has gone brittle and torn along the eaves, or a concrete tile roof from the 1960s is shedding its surface across whole slopes, patching individual tiles just moves the problem along. We will tell you when that is what we are looking at, and show you photographs of why.
Storm damage is different again and often urgent — see emergency roof repairs if water is coming in now.
